Tabs - Crop / Resize

There are two panels on this tab:

  • Crop Area - allows you to select the area that will be kept in the source image;
  • New Size - allows you to specify the proportions of the crop area and the size of the cropped image.

The Show Golden section ( / ) button is used to split the frame (selection) according to the golden section; it may help if you are choosing the composition. To switch the section type (cross / diagonal), move the mouse pointer over the button, click the left mouse button, hold it down and move the mouse down/up.

The button allows you to view the result of cropping and resizing the image without switching to the or tabs.

Crop Area

The following tools are located on the panel:

Select - the tool for selecting the image area to be kept;

Fit on Image - automatically stretch the selection to the image borders keeping the selection proportions if they are locked. If the proportions are not locked, the entire image will be selected.

The Orientation option allows you to switch the orientation of the selection without changing the proportions:

  • landscape ( );
  • portrait ( ).

New Size

You can specify the size and proportions of the cropped image:

  • by selecting from the list of standard photo paper sizes (the Paper tab);
  • by selecting the most popular screen resolutions (the Screen tab);
  • in any way you like using the User defined tab.

If you select values from the Paper list and the Resize to 300 dpi option is enabled, the standard proportions and sizes of the new image are set (in pixels, corresponding to 300 dpi); if this option is disabled, only proportions are set.

Selecting values from the Screen list sets standard proportions and sizes for the new image (in pixels, corresponding to the selected format).

You can use the User defined tab to specify the size of the new image in the following ways:

  • 100% - the image size corresponds to the size of the crop area;
  • Visible Size - the image size will correspond to the visible size of the crop area;
  • in percent ( );
  • by manually typing the values.

The button locks changes in proportions when you resize the crop area.
If the proportions are locked ( ), the second parameter is automatically changed according to the specified proportions as soon as you change one of the parameters (width or height).

With the ( ) list you can set the measurement units:

  • pixels;
  • inches;
  • centimeters.

You can either manually type the Aspect Ratio value (the ratio of height to width) or select it from the list of the most frequently used values. You can enter the value either as one number or as two numbers (width and height) separated with a colon (the ":" character). For example: "0.75" or "3 : 4".

The button allows you to save the current status and settings of the New Size panel as the default ones. You can restore saved default settings with the button.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you load a new image, the Crop / Resize operation ( ) is disabled by default. It will be enabled automatically, when you open this tab for the first time.
